OREANDA-NEWS. December 19, 2011. The Third International Intellectual Property Forum Expopriority 2001 was taking place at the Expocenter 7th pavilion from December 7 through 9.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia and Expocenter organized the forum under the patronage of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly, the Russian Education and Science Ministry and the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property.

CCI of Russia President Sergey Katyrin, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly Alexander Torshin and Expocenter General Director Vladislav Malkevich took part in the Forum’s opening ceremony.

The CCI of Russia President said in his introductory speech at the forum that the competition for human capital and intellect had turned global. Preservation of the intellectual potential of the country is the first thing to work on for the sake of Russia’s future. He said he was pleased that the exhibition segment dedicated to Russia and young intellectuals was twice larger than the entire Expopriority show held three years ago. The chambers and the state should concentrate in the immediate future on the creation of conditions, including those legislative, for preservation of talents, he said.

Alas, intellectual property is used scarcely in the Russian economy. The problem must be solved rapidly. Russia is about to enter into the WTO, and that will require serious measures to protect intellectual property, primarily in entrepreneurship laws.

The CCI of Russia actively cooperates with the World Intellectual Property Organization, uses its methodologies and holds learning seminars in regions. An important area of the joint work with the WIPO is the suppression of counterfeiting. Counterfeiting is a serious threat to this country on the household and much more serious levels, which exists on the domestic and foreign markets. Russian businessmen are very much interested in the energetic suppression of this hazard, Sergey Katyrin concluded.

More than 700 delegates from 27 states took part in Expopriority 2011, and the Forum geography broadened much as compared to the previous year. The Forum presented companies from Switzerland, France, Ukraine, Belarus, Hungary, the Netherlands, the United States, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Kazakhstan, China, Latvia, the United Kingdom and many other countries.

Over 1,000 participants represent Russia. Thirty-eight Russian regions delegated their representatives to the Forum.

World known companies - Shell International B.V., Philips (the Netherlands), Microsoft Corporation (the United Kingdom), AT&T Intellectual Property Inc. (the U.S.) and others – are attending the Forum.

Expopriority 2011 involves over 50 higher educational establishments of the Education and Science Ministry, more than 20 academic institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and twelve academies and research institutes of the Russian Defense Ministry.

The Third International Intellectual Property Forum Expopriority 2011 combines the World Intellectual Property Congress, a summit of brand leaders, the International Show of Innovations, an international contest of innovations, an assembly of the youth innovative community, roundtables, master classes and other events.

The International Show of Innovations is a key event of the Forum. It brings together domestic and foreign companies with a high degree of innovations in their products. This year over 200 companies from various states present their latest products on an area exceeding 5,500 square meters, and international show of innovations gives them a unique chance to display high-tech products and technologies.

The International Intellectual Property Congress will review the latest Russian and foreign trends in the development of the world patent law. The congress will present international round tables, “Patents and Industrial Designs in Regional Customs Unions” and “Organization and Functioning Mechanism of Territory of Innovations Clusters in the Light of the Innovative Russia 2020 Strategy”, a seminar on industrial designs and other events.

The summit of brand leaders (due on December 9) will play a special role in the Forum program; it will review the suppression of counterfeiting and piracy and intellectual property collisions on the Internet. The summit will be attended by designers of the ICC special project, BASCAP, Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy.

This year’s contest of innovations has an international format. The laureates will be awarded with gold medals of the World Intellectual Property Organization in the nominations, “Best Inventor” and “Best Young Inventor”, awards of the International Federation of Inventors’ Association, as well as diplomas and prizes.

The Expopriority 2011 Forum is an opportunity to give effective presentation of innovative products, to shape up the modern market of innovations, to draw investments in promising innovative projects and to establish a link between the innovative sector and financial structures.
