OREANDA-NEWS. December 22, 2011. Belarus’ population was at 9,466,700 people as of November 1, 2011, a decline by 14,500 from January 1, 2011, the National Statistics Committee said in a report.

In January-October 2011, 90,425 babies were born in Belarus, an increase by 425 from January-October 2010, and 113,381 people died, down by 646 year-on-year.

Natural population loss was at 22,956 in January-October 2011, down from 24,027 in January-October 2010.

Birth rate amounted to 11.5 per 1,000 in January-October 2011, unchanged year on year. Death rate totalled 14.4 per 1,000. Death rate among children under one year of age was at 3.9 per 1,000, down from 4 in January-October 2010.

According to the committee, net migration inflow in the period amounted to 14,433 people.

The number of registered marriages increased 9.3% in January-October 2011 to 73,438 and the number of divorces went up 6.7% to 31,050. There were 423 divorces per 1,000 marriages in January-October 2011, compared with 433 in January-October 2010.
