OREANDA-NEWS. December 26, 2011. MPX Energia S.A. announced that OGX Maranhao has been granted by the Environmental and Natural Resources Secretary of the State of Maranhao the Preliminary License for the production of natural gas in the Gaviao Real and Gaviao Azul fields in the Parnaiba Basin.

With the detailed project and construction contract signed, OGX Maranhao continues the execution of the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) implementation. The UPGN will be responsible for removing the liquids, as well as filtering and heating the produced gas.

The Preliminary License certifies the meeting of environmental requirements by the venture, which will supply natural gas to the Parnaiba Thermoelectric Complex. The total contracted capacity of the complex has already reached 1.5 GW and an additional installation license has also been granted for a further 2.2 GW, which can be sold as OGX Maranhao, a joint venture between MPX (33.3%) and OGX (66.6%), continues its drilling campaign and identifies new, commercially viable fields for gas production.
