OREANDA-NEWS. December 26, 2011. At the 2011 MEP Middle East Awards banquet at Address Marina Hotel in Dubai, Voltas walked away with the most prestigious honour, namely 'MEP Contractor of the Year'. The award was a tribute to Voltas's mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) services for the iconic new Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi.

The judges selected Voltas for its sheer ability to undertake large, complex and diverse projects across the region, involving MEP works for several iconic development projects. They were all praise for Voltas's exponential growth over the last 10 years as a prominent player in the MEP contracting sector in the region, and specially mentioned its thorough work processes as a key factor behind its success.

Etihad Towers was also adjudged the 'Overall GCC Project of the Year', with Voltas's electro-mechanical work playing an important role in the victory. Voltas had supplied, installed, tested and commissioned MEP services for three towers, podiums, the basement and a floating restaurant. The scope of work included services such as HVAC, car park ventilation, high-voltage network, low and extra-low voltage systems like CCTV and data / tel, water supply and sewerage, drainage, firefighting and fire suppression, and hot and cold water systems. Voltas also undertook numerous value engineering initiatives and 'green' measures, bringing about significant savings in cost and energy usage.

It was a repeat of Voltas's success at the MEP Awards 2010 as 'MEP Contractor of the Year' for its work on the Ferrari World project (which also won the 'Overall GCC Project of the Year' honours).

Said Shaukat Ali Mir, EVP and COO, electrical and mechanical division, Voltas: "It was a fiercely fought contest, as always. It's a matter of great pride for Voltas to have won the highest honour two years in a row, against such formidable international competition."

Etihad Towers is the latest addition to Voltas's lengthy portfolio of electro-mechanical work for landmark development projects, especially in GCC and South East Asian countries. Over several decades, Voltas has built up a history in the engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of multi-million dollar projects high in scope, scale, value and complexity. Notable recent projects include Ferrari World, F1 Grand Prix Circuit and Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi; Burj Khalifa and Mall in the Emirates, in Dubai; and the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, among others.
