OREANDA-NEWS. December 30, 2011. CROC recently launched a new commercial Kompressor Data Center designed to offer customers a wide range of outsourcing services. For the first time, data center design documents from the Russian systems integrator received Uptime Institute Professional Services Tier III certification, confirming 99.982% availability.

The Kompressor Data Center has a total floor space of 5,000 sq m (approx. 53,800 sq ft). Four computer rooms (total space of 2,000 sq m - approx. 21,500 sq ft) occupy two floors and can host up to 800 racks, while rooms for customer personnel have a total floor space of 500 sq m (approx. 5,300 sq ft). The data center is equipped with more than 20 cutting-edge engineering systems, including uninterrupted power supply, air conditioning, automated gas fire-suppression, structured cabling, security, CCTV and data center monitoring systems.

“More and more companies in Russia are demanding reliable support from their IT units, especially those in the financial and telecom sectors. When customers outsource business-critical systems, they want to be sure that a service provider and its data center are reliable. Therefore, fault tolerance becomes one of the most important decision-making factors. The design documents of the Kompressor Data Center were certified for compliance with international standards so that CROC would be able to guarantee high quality and data security. As a result, we offer a unique integrated solution based on a reliable data center with a full systems integrator's portfolio, including cloud computing services,” says Ruslan Zaedinov, Deputy Director General and Head of CROC Data Centers.

The data center is also unique in the convenience of its location. The building is situated within the secured territory of the Kompressor plant, ten minutes away from downtown Moscow. The Kompressor Data Center guarantees an unprecedented level of data security. All critical system components that support customers’ business-critical processes have redundant units and can be maintained concurrently.

The data center’s engineering systems are worth mentioning. CROC’s own power distribution station is connected to two independent power plants and provides 8 MW of electrical power. The uninterrupted power supply system offers double redundancy while diesel-generators ensure a guaranteed power supply as they can operate in a stand-alone mode for 24 hours without additional fuel.

The air-conditioning system allows for the maintenance of any element within the data center without shutting down the entire IT infrastructure or reducing the system’s operating power and thus complies with Tier III Uptime Institute requirements. The data center has a unified CCTV and security-and-alarm system and several telecom operators provide the data center’s communication channels. Customers’ main data centers can be connected via an allocated communication channel which CROC offers independently from external providers. As a result, the main data center can be failed over to reliable backup systems, if necessary.

“The number of Russian companies interested in IT outsourcing is increasing steadily. The outsourcing of various business-supporting systems to commercial data centers is a global trend. In many cases, the customer's infrastructure is managed by a professional service provider on behalf of the customer – which may be the most efficient approach given the fact that corporate IT demands are growing much faster than IT budgets,” remarks Alexander Zagnetko, Program Manager, Enterprise Platforms, IDC Russia/CIS. “There is no doubt that data center reliability is often one of the key selection criteria when choosing a service provider. That is why TIER III-certified data centers are becoming more and more popular in our country, as they ensure required fault-tolerance level.”

CROC has already opened two computer rooms in the Kompressor Data Center and the completion of finishing work and engineering system installation in two other rooms is scheduled for spring 2012. Once the data center site is fully commissioned, CROC plans to receive the Uptime Institute’s Constructed Facility certification for its Kompressor Data Center. Customers are already booking the data center rack-places.
