OREANDA-NEWS.  January 12, 2012. It is the second year in a row when the best publications of the year are presented, firstly, they are passed to Ukio bankas branches in all Lithuania and then make their way to the local libraries. Ukio bankas presents the newest publications of Lithuanian authors cooperating with organisers of the campaign Elections of the Book of the Year taking place the seventh time already, reported the press-centre of Ukio bankas.

“It is another year when we join this meaningful and useful initiative since the libraries of the country face a lack of new and qualitative publications. We want this initiative to help the libraries in the regions to strengthen their role as important centres of culture and information. Book sets presented by Ukio bankas will help many libraries to form solid collection of books”, - said Gintaras Ugianskis, Chairman of Ukio bankas Board.

According to G. Ugianskis, this initiative of Ukio bankas is oriented to availability and promotion of qualitative and professional literature, thus Ukio bankas presents the books to the libraries whose authors are elected as the best of the year.

Elections of the book of the year take place every year from 2005. The purpose of the campaign – to promote interest of people of Lithuania in modern Lithuanian literature, to raise prestige of reading in our society. The authors of the book that will get the biggest number of votes will receive awards in the international Vilnius Books Fair in February.

Sets of books presented by Ukio bankas to every library consist of five (in the category of books for adults) or three (books for children and youngsters) best books of Lithuanian authors of 2011. The volumes are presented to the libraries that had prepared applications and won in the competition to get the books.

“With the support of Ukio bankas all libraries of Lithuania this year as well as the last were given 5 times more books than before.
