OREANDA-NEWS. January 13, 2012. MERLION has signed a new distribution contract for supply of Sony tablet PCs to Russia supporting the company’s strategy of leadership in key segments of the Russian electronics and IT market, reported the press-centre of MERLION.

The signed agreement entered into force on December 1 and grants MERLION the status of the “Authorized distributor of Sony tablet PCs”. The contract applies to all models of series S and P Sony Tablet, as well as accessories for those, and gives the right to directly supply and promote the products in the Russian market.

The agreement has become a logical continuation of many years of successful cooperation between the two companies. Since 2002, MERLION, as the authorized distributor of Sony, has been supplying a wide range of products of the Japanese manufacturer to the Russian market: TVs, laptops, digital cameras and camcorders, digital photo frames, MP3 players, Sony Play Station game consoles, digital data storage media, voice recorders, headphones and headsets. MERLION has recently also acquired the status of “Authorized distributor of Sony Reader™ electronics books” on December 15 2011.

MERLION has received in December at its warehouse the first direct supply according to the new contract - Sony SGPT112RU, Sony SGPT114RU, Sony SGPT114SF16AI.YC Tegra2, Sony SGPT111RU/S.RU3 Tegra2  tablets. The partners have completely purchased the first batch within 2 weeks, and the distributor has already placed a request for the second delivery after the New Year holidays. Sony has highly appreciated such an effective start of cooperation and is looking forward to further expansion in this and in other product segments.

MERLION also places its big stakes on expansion of cooperation with one of the world market leaders in digital technology. According to Anton Lukyanov, MERLION’s Director of Procurement, “Sony products have always been distinguished by technological state of the art and great style that defined the continued success of products both with partners and customers. Therefore, setting a goal of strengthening its leading position in the market of supply of mobile digital devices to Russia, MERLION could not overlook the Sony Tablets.

In MERLION they call the Mobile PC segment as one of the priorities of the company’s development. However, they do not rely only on the estimates of experts predicting explosive growth in this market sector, but also on their own sales momentum. According to Anton Lukyanov, this commodity group has been showing annual growth in turnover by the tens of percent for all post-crisis years, and the company expects to maintain this momentum.
