OREANDA-NEWS.  January 16, 2012. Cargo handling by JSC Murmansk Commercial Seaport (MCS) in 2011 grew by 12% year-over-year, to 14,420,033 tons, the stevedore company said.

In the reporting period, Murmansk Commercial Seaport saw a 11.7 percent growth in exports and 2.7 percent gain in imports. Short sea traffic volume rose by 29.9 percent from 2011’s numbers.
For 12 months of the year the company loaded to dry bulk carriers 10,765,000 tons of coal (+11%), 986,000 tons of apatite concentrate, 1,206,000 tons of iron ore (a threefold surge) 330,000 tons of non-ferrous metals, 217,000 tons of manganese ore.

The Murmansk port handled 490 ships, including 174 coal-laden ships, 198 vessels with general cargo, 21 ships laden with iron ore concentrate, 51 ships carrying apatite concentrate and 46 vessels with other goods in bulk.

During the year the stevedore handled 200,143 rail cars (10%), unloaded 193, 288 (+9.5%) and loaded 6,855 cars (+17%).

In 2011, the company handled two 100,000dwt Capsize vessels, completed a facility for transshipment of large quantities of mineral fertilizer (in railcar-to-ship, railcar-warehouse-to-ship modes).

OJSC Murmansk Commercial Seaport was founded in 1994. MCS is operates 17 berths of total length of about 3 km. The waters depths allow the port to accommodate vessels with draft of 15.5 m and length of more than 265 m. The stevedore specializes in handling ranged cargoes, including non-ferrous metals and alloys in packages, rolled ferrous metals, coal, apatite concentrate, alumina, and scrap and iron ore pellets in bulk, chemical products in bags and big-bags, construction cargo and foodstuff. In 2010, MCS handled more than 12.8 million tons of different cargoes. The company’s net profit under RAS in H1, 2011 shrank by 30.2% year-on-year to RUB 138,534,000, revenue - by 3.7%, to 1,403,254,000 rubles.
