OREANDA-NEWS.  January 16, 2012. It was noted that the General Plan was adopted to promote the implementation of the National Programme of Social and Economic Development of Turkmenistan for 2011-2030 and speed up the development of railway sector and create new jobs.

The State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) reports, the General Plan provides for the construction of the Atamyrat-Imamnazar railway and the Gazachak-Shahsenem-Dashoguz railway, the Turkmenabat-Farab railway bridge across the Amu Darya River, a high-speed rail line between Turkmenbashi in Balkan Velayat and Turkmenabat in Lebap Velayat and a number of large infrastructure facilities.

The decision to allocate the credit for the additional funding of the construction and assembling works on the Bereket-Serhetyaka section of the Gyzylgaya-Bereket-Etrek railway under construction was adopted during the recent government meeting. The credit will be allocated by the State Development Bank of Turkmenistan to the Ministry of Railway Transport. The railway is being built under the project of the North-South transnational transport corridor that will run across Turkmenistan and neighbouring countries.

Dozens of railway stations and terminals, locomotive depots, engineering structures and social facilities are to be built on the route of the North-South railway stretching from Bereket town to the border with Kazakhstan. The infrastructure facilities of international importance are the Serhetyaka railway station and the etrap centre Etrek on the border between Turkmenistan and Iran.
