OREANDA-NEWS. January 16, 2012. In December 2011 PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih” completed combining of pipeline air vents and containers into common collector at the Coke-Oven Gas Recovery Shop. Before implementation of this project the air vents and containers were main sources of air emissions at this Shop. Now the common collector enables to reduce pollutant agents by 13.8 tons per year. PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih” invested 15.4 million UAH in construction of this environmental facility.

The project provides combining of air vents and containers at sulfate and ammonium sections, storage facilities for tar and benzene of coke and by-product plant. Containers of the Shop include special collectors and storage facilities for acceptance and setting of process liquids:

water-tar emulsions, tar-water, tar and benzol. Combining of air vents enables to avoid evaporation of liquids during technical processes resulted 100% elimination of emissions of ammonium, benzol, hydrogen sulphide, tar camphor, phenol, hydrogen cyanide, toluol, xylene, benzopyrene and carbon bisulphide.

Commissioning of common collector enables avoiding gas evaporations to air but put gases back to technical process and keep them at the closed cycle. Such quantity of gases is insignificant for technical processes but important for reduction of air emission which will improve environmental situation.

Liana Maksimenko, Director of Environment Department of PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih”: ”Commissioning of this environmental facility will first of all reduce level of ammonium, hydrogen, sulphide, phenol in the footprint of the enterprise. This facility at the Coke-Oven Gas Recovery Shop reduces the number of emission sources from 12 to 2. Significant improvement of working conditions for employees at several departments of coke and by-product plant is no less important”.
