OREANDA-NEWS. January 18, 2012. On January, 14 dean of Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO Andrey Volkov has made a presentation at The Emerging Markets Symposium, organized by Green Templeton College, a constituent college of the University of Oxford. The topic of the presentation: “Challenges of the Tertiary Education Model: Case of Russia”.

The idea to organize an annual Symposium is pretty new: it is held only since 2008. The number of participants is small – no more than 40-50 people. Most of them hold senior positions in government and multilateral organizations and corporations. But, in contrast to the other similar events, there are no representatives of media on this Symposium: all its sessions are held behind closed doors. The idea of such meetings is to identify and promote solutions to high priority sectoral issues facing emerging market countries.

This year one of the sessions of this Symposium was devoted to tertiary education in developing countries. The participants mentioned that, despite the growth of the number of universities, their effectiveness is in question. From one side, more people can get tertiary education. But from the other side, this accessibility can affect the quality of education.

Among the participants of the session were representatives of well-known universities. The last day of Symposium was devoted to round tables, where the participants had a chance to share their thoughts, ideas and recommendations.
