OREANDA-NEWS. January 24, 2012. Hazira,India: Essar Steel has won the Water Digest “Water Awards 2011-2012” under the ‘Best Water Efficient Project’category. The awards were presented on January 10, 2012by Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal, the Honorable Minister for Water Resources  at an award ceremony in New Delhi.

This is the second consecutive year that Essar Steel has been conferred with top honours at the Water Digest Water Awards. Last year, Essar Steel was conferred the first prize in the ‘Water Reuse Project of the Year 2010-11’ category for its outstanding work in water conservation.

Commenting on the award, Mr.Dilip Oomen, CEO, Essar Steel said: “We are proud of our water-conservation initiatives and it is truly an honour to be recognized for our efforts. This award is a testimony to our long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship through the implementation of innovative water conservation projects.”

The Water Digest Water Awards (WDWA), set up in 2006, is a platform to honour and appreciate outstanding environmental initiatives and achievements. The award is supported by UNESCO and the Ministry of Water Resources and aims to draw attention to people, innovations and processes that contribute to the sustainability of water. In addition, it seeks to highlight those organizations, NGO’s and companies that have worked within the community to ensure that the message of water efficiency is top of mind for people, institutions, government and industries alike.”
