OREANDA-NEWS. January 25, 2012. Recently, with Stainless Steel Business Unit LCA (product life cycle assessment) data acquisition system entering the commissioning phase, Baosteel "stainless steel product life cycle assessment research and application" project kicks off in a substantial way. This is the first time that enterprise carries out stainless steel product full life cycle assessment research and application within domestic stainless steel industry, reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

Baosteel is the first domestic iron and steel enterprise which has product life cycle assessment. With the establishment of Baosteel environmental business idea, low carbon and ecological requirements are highlighted in the stainless steel manufacturing process. By the end of last year, with full support of Baosteel Co.,Ltd., Stainless Steel Business Unit "stainless steel product life cycle assessment research and application" is officially approved. After a year's project implementation, currently Stainless Steel Business Unit LCA data acquisition system has entered the final commissioning stage.

The system gathers atmospheric emission, water emission and solid waste emission data of Stainless Steel Business Unit's six categories of products (ferritic, austenitic, martensitic, duplex stainless steel, BN serie, 316 high nickel) during the manufacturing process and generates stainless steel major products LCA data theme.

Meanwhile, in the ironmaking, steelmaking, hot rolling and cold rolling key processes, real-time energy consumption data acquisition and analysis is implemented and process optimization and technology improvement are conducted at any time. In addition, the system can also make data entry and analysis of stainless steel raw material components, ratio information, impact on the environment indicators during the process of consumption and does product quality tracking. It is reported that this system will finish commissioning and get on line in the first quarter of this year.

In the next stage, Stainless Steel Business Unit will put the the terminal users' products using situation data into the system so as to have a more comprehensive tracking and assessment of the product life-cycle.
