OREANDA-NEWS.  January 27, 2012. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for December 2011and for the 2011 calendar year.
 
December 2011
Production: global and Japan
 Total global production for December 2011 came in at 93,065 units, 1.2 percent down over December 2010 and the fifth consecutive monthly decrease since July 2011. Production volume in Japan at 48,726 units was 2.4 percent down on December 2010, the fifth consecutive monthly decrease since July 2011. Passenger car output at 42,586 units was 4.7 percent down on the same month last year. Commercial vehicle output at 6,140 units was 16.5 percent up year on year.
 
Sales in Japan
 Vehicle sales in Japan in December totaled 10,174 units, 11.2 percent up on the same month last year and exceeded the figure for the previous year for the first time in two months since October 2011. Sales of passenger cars at 7,086 units were 6.7 percent up and sales of commercial vehicles at 3,088 units were 22.8 percent up year on year. Registered vehicle sales volume at 3,446 units was 8.1 percent up and minicar sales volume at 6,728 units was 12.8 percent up respectively on the same month last year.
 
Production overseas
 Overseas production volume in December 2011 totaled 44,339 units, 0.2 percent up over December 2010 and marked the first year-on-year increase in three months since September 2011. By region, output in Asia at 37,033 units was 2.7 percent down year on year, despite an 8.2 percent increase (17,935 units) at MMTh in Thailand and a 70.0 percent increase at KRM in Indonesia on the back of strong sales. In China, output at 8,635 units was 34.7 percent down on December 2010 partly due to a 34.7 percent year-on-year decline in sales at Soueast Motors (SEM). In North America, output at 2,003 units was 17.1 percent up over December 2010. In Europe, output at 1,403 units was 33.1 percent down. In South America, output at 3,450 units was 64.3 percent up year on year.
 
Export shipments from Japan
 Total exports from Japan of 34,723 units in December 2011 were 18.8 percent down on December 2010, marking the fourth consecutive monthly year-on-year decrease since August 2011. Exports to Asia at 1,767 units were 72.3 percent down year on year. Exports to North America at 8,643 units were 33.6 percent up on the same month last year. Exports to Europe at 12,971 units were 10.5 percent down year on year.

 In calendar 2011 total global production came in at 1,140,332 units, 2.8 percent down on the previous year and the first year-on-year decline in two years since 2009. Production volume in Japan at 603,594 units was 8.6 percent down on the previous year, the first year-on-year decline in two years since 2009.
 
Sales in Japan
 Calendar 2011 vehicle sales on the Japanese market at 147,606 units were 16.2 percent down on the previous year, marking the first year-on-year decrease in two years since 2009. Registered vehicle sales volume at 54,944 units was 19.3 percent down and minicar volume at 92,662 units was 14.2 percent down.
 
Production overseas
 Total overseas production in calendar 2011 came in at 536,738 units, 4.7 percent up over the previous year and marked the first consecutive year-on-year increase since 2010. Output in Asia at 435,797 units was 4.9 percent up on 2010, driven partly by an 8.6 percent increase (209,003 units) at MMTh in Thailand. Output in China at 109,463 units dropped 11.5 percent over calendar 2010. Output in North America at 37,145 units was 26.5 percent up over the previous year. Output in Europe at 23,808 units was 11.6 percent down. Output in South America at 37,350 units was 2.6 percent up on calendar 2010.
 
Export shipments from Japan
 Total exports from Japan in calendar 2011 at 438,033 units were 2.4 percent down on 2010 and marked the first year-on-year decrease in two years since 2009. By region, export shipments to Asia at 52,118 units fell by 7.4 percent over the previous year. Exports to North America at 65,917 units were 12.5 percent up over 2010. Shipments to Europe at 186,732 units rose 16.6 percent year on year.
