OREANDA-NEWS.  February 1, 2012.  National Rail Museum (NRM) a part of Ministry of Railways, today organized Museum Day in its premises here today. NRM observes February 1 every year as the Museum Day and it has completed 35 years today.

 Smt. Poonam Mittal, President, Railway Women’s Welfare Central Organization (RWWCO) was the Chief Guest at the Museum Day celebrations. She gave away the prizes to the winners of the drawing and painting competition organized earlier by RWWCO at national level for the children of Railway employees and also prizes to the winners of the on the spot drawing and painting competition organized by NRM on the occasion of Children’s Day in November 2011. The prizes for the competition have been sponsored by RWWCO.

 The highlight of today’s celebration was a vibrant cultural programme presented by the children of the Delhi division of Uttar Railway Bharat Scouts & Guides.

 RWWCO is the apex body of the chain of women’s welfare organizations spread over all Indian Railways engaged in the task of welfare of railway men and their families through various need-based socio welfare activities. While the primary concern of the Organization is the welfare of Railway employees and their families, it has always risen to the call of the society and the nation - be it environmental awareness or family welfare drives or disturbances on the borders or the natural calamities. It is one of the fore-runner voluntary Organizations in the country today. Among all its activities, RWWCO pays particular attention on the betterment of womenfolk of vast railway family and their children.

 National Rail Museum (NRM) is the focus of Rail Heritage of India, a source of fascination and interest in Railways for all. Formally inaugurated on the 1st of February, 1977, this one-of-its-kind museum in Asia has an interesting collection of history, heritage, romance, nostalgia, fun, leisure and entertainment, all at one place. Sprawling over 10 acres in Chanakya Puri, New Delhi, it comprises an indoor gallery devoted to the display of various exhibits, models, records, photographs, coat of arms, documents etc. over 100 real size exhibits display the glory of the bygone era. The Museum promises to take the visitors on an exciting journey into the Railway history and heritage and depict their contribution to the industrial and economic progress of the country.
