OREANDA-NEWS.  February 1, 2012.  It should be recalled that the first trucks of today’s world-famous brand came off at that time the only assembly line of the main assembly conveyor of the automobile plant on February 16, 1976, after 6 years and 2 months after the official start of construction KAMAZ. They were immediately sent to Moscow to be presented to delegates of the Congress of the CPSU. After several years of operation in one of the fleets of Bashkortostan, a vehicle of the first model KAMAZ-5320 numbered 0000001 was purchased by its manufacturers, and now it is kept as the functional museum piece at the Scientific and Technical Center of KAMAZ, serving only on the days of its anniversary or on other special occasions.

5,063 vehicles in all were produced for 241 working days in 1976. Working three shifts, the main assembly line produced 21 vehicles a day on the average.

The first millionth KAMAZ was manufactured in 1988, 12 years after the launch of production. Then Russia had a period of economic and political reforms followed by a great decline in production. For example, KAMAZ made only three thousand trucks in 1998...

In 2002 KAMAZ began to recover. KAMAZ became the leader of the technical and technological progress in the Russian truck industry, an initiator, a lobbyist and a pioneer in the introduction of all levels and technical regulations of Euro environmental standards in Russia. Nabererezhnye Chelny received state-of-the-art technologies from the world`s leading automakers – ZF Friedrichshafen, Cummins Inc., Knorr-Bremse SfN GmbH, Federal Mogul Corporation – which established joint ventures with KAMAZ. The company started cooperating with Daimler. The rapid growth of the enterprise enabled to produce the second million of vehicles.

In 2011, KAMAZ produced about 44 thousand trucks for 228 working days. On the average, the main assembly line made 208 vehicles a day. Line 1 worked two shifts and Line 2 worked one shift a day. Since the fourth quarter of 2011, the company has been producing 240 vehicles a day.

According to the Department of Production Management of OJSC KAMAZ, the two millionth KAMAZ will come off the assembly line in mid-February 2012.
