OREANDA-NEWS. February 2, 2012. Kaspersky Lab saw in the New Year in positive mood after a series of wins with top marks in several comparative tests conducted by different respected independent testing organizations in December of last year. Topping off this run of successes, Kaspersky Lab was also awarded Product of the Year in awards based on multiple comparative tests conducted throughout the whole year - based on its being the only security solution provider to get top marks in all the year’s key tests.

First up in this string of wins was both the corporate solution Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows and the consumer solution Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 being awarded VB100 Certification after being tested along with nearly 60 other security solutions in Virus Bulletin’s uniquely broad independent comparative review, widely recognized in the industry as a true indicator of anti-malware solutions’ fundamental effectiveness and functionality. In the three different tests that formed the basis of the certification, both products achieved perfect results: on-demand test: 100.00%; on-access test: 100.00%; and clean-set test: 100.00% (zero false positives). Details of the VB100 comparative test can be found here. Full procedures of the certification scheme can be found here, and the detailed test methodology is here. The original Kaspersky Lab press release on the win is here.

Next up, the same two just-mentioned products – Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows and Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 – beat all other competing products (totaling 23 and eight, respectively) in complex testing by AV-Test.org – the “Independent IT Security Institute” – with highest scores of 17 (average - 13.2) and 17.5 (average - 13.4), again respectively. Testing consisted of several trials, including those on effectiveness of malware detection and removal, the number of false positive detections, and resource usage. The original Kaspersky Lab press release on this win is here.

In another independent testing lab’s comparative analysis – this time a very detailed one by Computer Bild, one of Europe’s most popular IT magazines – Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 received another best-of-the-best award - Best Consumer Security Software Product. In this testing Kaspersky Lab’s security product was the only one to neutralize all active malware on the infected test system. It also achieved the best result in a real-world test, effectively blocking all malicious objects before they could infiltrate the system. The original Kaspersky Lab press release is here.

Besides all the top-of-the-class marks awarded to Kaspersky Lab’s PC-based security solutions, the company also got the highest result – five stars – in testing of its Android-based mobile phone security solution – Kaspersky Mobile Security 9 – by PC Security Labs, the only test lab in China to have joined the Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization. Twenty mobile security solutions were tested for detection of malware and the number of false positives. On the former, Kaspersky Mobile Security 9 was among the top-three rated solutions (particularly impressive for a non-Chinese solution); on the latter, the Kaspersky Lab product returned none - the perfect score. The full report on the testing can be found here. The original Kaspersky Lab press release is here.

And last but by no means least – in fact, probably the most significant award recently granted to Kaspersky Lab’s products – the company won Product of the Year in independent test lab AV-Comparatives’ Annual Awards. This prestigious award given to the year’s industry beater was based on the results in nine different key comparative tests of consumer anti-virus solutions conducted in 2011, which in Kaspersky Lab’s case meant two products - Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Kaspersky Internet Security. Significantly, Kaspersky Lab was the only solution provider awarded the highest grade – Advanced+ – in all nine tests. The full Anti-Virus Comparative Summary Report 2011 can be found here. The original Kaspersky Lab press release is here. The nine different tests conducted throughout 2011 in which Kaspersky Lab got the highest grade are as follows:

February - On-Demand Malware Detection Test (includes false alarm and on-demand scanning speed test) (Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011)

February - Retrospective/Heuristic Test (static detection of new/unknown malicious software) (Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011)

March - June - Whole-Product “Real World” Dynamic Test - Part One (Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 & 2012)

Nikolay Grebennikov, Chief Technology Officer of Kaspersky Lab, commented: “The importance of these independent test results for our wide range of consumer and corporate security products cannot be underestimated. If we were to compare them to a sports contest, they would be like winning gold medals in all the disciplines of the Olympic Games. Achieving excellent detection rates is one of our main goals, because in a world seeing tens of thousands of new malware samples each day no one can afford to miss just one serious threat. We are very happy to see the world’s most reputable independent research institutions praising the effectiveness of our products, while at the same time we refuse to rest on our laurels and will strive to improve our products even further into the future.”
