OREANDA-NEWS.  February 07, 2012. The volume of cargo handling at the port of Kavkaz in January 2012 rose by 5.4% compared with the same period last year, to 422,380 tons, the Port Authority said.

In January, exports rose by 2.6% year-on-year to 356,760 tons, while imports dipped by 34.3% to 14.58 tons. Grain transshipments at the anchorage totaled slightly over 51,000 tons.

Ship calls decreased by 6.4% to 117 units.

Port of Kavkaz is situated between the Azov and the Russian Black Sea coast. The 4.5m-deep harbor enables access of river boats and offshore loading/unloading of seagoing ships. The port specializes in handling of dry bulk cargo (mineral fertilizer, concentrates of various ores, grain), general cargo, timber, and containers. In 2011, cargo throughput at Port of Kavkaz was 8,261,000 tons versus 9.65mln a year before.
