OREANDA-NEWS. February 14, 2012. CNPC and Beijing Municipal Government signed a strategic cooperation agreement on promoting LNG public transports in Beijing. Mayor of Beijing Guo Jinlong and CNPC Chairman Jiang Jiemin had a meeting and attended the signing ceremony. Vice Mayor of Beijing Gou Zhongwen and PetroChina Vice President Li Hualin signed the agreement on behalf of the two sides, reported the press-centre of CNPC.

Under the agreement, Beijing Municipal Government will gradually promote LNG buses in the city, and designate Beijing Public Transport Holdings, Ltd. and other municipal units to speed up the process in this regard. CNPC, in the first half year, will donate 100 LNG buses to the city, which will be put into operation in bus lines along the Chang'an Street by the end of February.

According to calculation, the PM2.5 emissions of a LNG bus is 90% plus lower than diesel powered ones. If all the current buses in Beijing were replaced by LNG buses, the PM2.5 emissions would be reduced to a great extent and the air quality in the city would be greatly improved.
