OREANDA-NEWS. February 15, 2012. Representatives of the Israeli operator Space Communication Ltd., the customer of the AMOS-5 telecommunications satellite, visited Information Satellite Systems. The spacecraft designed and manufactured by the Reshetnev Company was successfully inserted into orbit in December, 2011.

During their business trip Space Communication Ltd. representatives have visited ISS-Reshetnev’s Information Computation Center, from which the satellite control is currently exercised. The guests also held a meeting where a wide range of issues were covered, including those addressing AMOS-5 in-orbit control. In accordance with the contract, the satellite is now controlled from ISS-Reshetnev facilities and later it will be gradually handed over to the customer. Even when AMOS-5 is fully commissioned to the Israeli company, Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems will provide maintenance and technical support for the satellite.

David Pollack, President and CEO of the Spacecom Company, expressed his appreciation of the great work done by the Reshetnev team. The telecommunications satellite AMOS-5 is showing flawless in-orbit performance and commenced providing commercial services in less than 1.5 month since its launch.

Commenting on the AMOS-5 project, David Pollack said, We are happy that everything, starting from the satellite’s launch and till now, is going off smoothly. We believe it will be continuing this way for the long years of service of AMOS-5. It is a very important project for us, since AMOS-5 is the first satellite that we took to a new orbital position, not the same where our first satellites are stationed. The spacecraft is intended for the new geographical area – Africa and thus it is an important step, allowing us to grow and enter new markets.

At the meeting the two parties also discussed the prospects of further cooperation between the Reshetnev Company and Spacecom.
