OREANDA-NEWS. February 15, 2012. ESTA Group started preparations for reconstruction of Kyiv Central Department Store (TSUM). The reconstruction will take place till autumn 2014, increase the store's total area up to 45,000 m2, and add 200 underground car parking spaces. The use of the courtyard and underground area will make these improvements possible. The facade of the building constructed in 1939 will remain intact.

"We will preserve the identity of Kreschatik: behind the historical facade of TSUM we'll build a new department store, which will go unmatched in terms of design and be comfortable for buyers. We are engaging the best specialists and are going to invest over USD 100 million in reconstruction," commented Maksim Gromadtsov, Investment Director of Esta Holding. The architectural concept of the new TSUM belongs to the renowned English architectural bureau, Benoy, which partnered with Ukrainian architectors for this project. Long experience in reconstructing historic buildings and erecting retail facilities was a key factor in favour of Benoy.

TSUM will keep its traditional department store format. Esta Holding is planning to attract professional retail operators with a good understanding of the market, affordable price policy and a wide product mix. The car park will be located on two underground levels; menswear, womenswear, children's wear and household goods will occupy the first six floors, and the roof with an observation terrace will serve as a place for restaurants. Also, the project includes a supermarket in Kreschatik needed by those who live and work in the immediate proximity to TSUM.

The new TSUM will sell some famous brand-name products, which have not been presented in Ukraine yet, as well as the brands that operate well in Ukrainian market. Some of the area will be intended for premium products. Esta Holding will manage the whole facility as it has extensive experience of managing real estate in the services sector.

There is no doubt that the new TSUM will attract Kievans of all ages and professions as well as guests of the capital. An unusual architectural solution, a sloping atrium crowned with a glass cupola as well as light installations, will be one of TSUM's remarkable sights. "We would like TSUM to join the European league of central department stores. We are confident that around 40-50 thousand people will visit the new TSUM daily," added Mr Gromadtsov.
