OREANDA-NEWS. February 16, 2012. Uralkali has completed its renovation project of three processing lines in the granulation unit of the Berezniki-3 processing plant. This contributed to the expansion of the Berezniki-3 granulation capacities from 900 thousand tonnes to 1.25 million tonnes of muriate of potash. The project commenced in May 2010, the total project costs amounted to approximately RUR 1.5 billion.

In the process of renovation of the granulation facilities of Berezniki-3 mill metal structures were replaced and supporting columns and beams were reinforced Moreover, another refinement line manufactured by Binder was installed; this will help to convert the whole output of potassium chloride into Eurogran grade granules well known for its high quality all over the world.

Six 100-tonne Koppern (Germany) roller presses have been installed in the granulation division. The new press equipment enabled to improve the division's performance and enhance the quality of the granular products. Two state-of-art and efficient Binder furnaces were also installed for preheating potash. This equipment maintains heating conditions of potash drying and, thus, ensures quality products even at a large production scale. In addition, the main sizing equipment has been fully replaced. New Rhewum vibration screening machines help to increase the output.

In order to conserve natural resources during the production process in the granulation unit the exhaust system was completely updated. Its key benefit is that uses dry scrubbing for air purification which conserves water resources. The new system also effectively removes salt dust and improves working conditions.

The granulation process has been fully automated to ensure stable operation. Before renovation each of three processing lines used to operate separately, now all three lines will operate using an integrated automation system.
