OREANDA-NEWS. February 22, 2012. Kyivstar is continuing to connect schools in Ukraine to broadband Internet based on the FTTB technology (fiber to the building). In December 2011, 25 schools in Western Ukraine, where more than 20 thousand children are educated, were connected to the Internet. Previously the Company had provided 15 schools in this region with Internet services. Educational institutions get unlimited Internet access from Kyivstar at a speed of 10 Mbps. This initiative is being implemented under the Memorandum of Cooperation signedbetween the operator and the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Sports.

In December 2011 Kyivstar provided 25 secondary schools in Western Ukraine with broadband Internet. These are Schools No. 2, 6, 9, 14, 15 and 17 in the city of Kamianets-Podilskyi, Schools No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the city of Netyshyn of Khmelnytskyi Oblast. In Volyn Oblast School No. 5 and a Gymnasium in the city of Novovolynsk were connected to the Internet as well as School No. 3 in the city of Volodymyr-Volynskyi. In Zakarpattia Oblast the College of Culture and Arts in the city of Uzhhorod and School No. 3 in the city of Khust got the Internet. In Ivano-Frankivsk Schools No. 1 and No. 2 were connected, as well as in Chernivtsi School No. 3 and Gymnasium No. 7 and in Ternopil Schools No. 6 and No. 3. In Rivne Oblast Schools No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in the city of Kuznetsovsk were connected to the broadband Internet.

Earlier on Kyivstar had provided 15 secondary schools of Western Ukraine in the cities of Lutsk, Lviv, Drohobych, Khmelnytskyi, Rivne and Mukhacheve with the access to the World Wide Web.

"Kyivstar is paying special attention to the connection of schools to the Internet in smaller cities and raion centers. The Company is taking care of creating equal opportunities for children to access modern technologies, no matter in which city they live. Also, we are striving to do so that our present is only of benefit to the students. Due to the Kyivstar’s efforts educational events have been carried out at schools aimed to inform children, teachers and parents about rules of safety in the Internet. Thus, in five cities of Western Ukraine video classes on online safety were held, in which the children from different schools shared the acquired knowledge with each other in a video conference mode."

School buildings are connected to the Kyivstar backbone network by means of optical fiber communication lines on the basis of the FTTB technology (fiber to the building). The Company specialists perform a complex of works in the premises of educational institutions to connect computer classrooms to the Internet. The Internet access is provided to schools under the terms developed within a framework of partnership between Kyivstar and the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine. Educational institutions get free unlimited traffic at a speed of 10 Mbps during school hours.

As of today Kyivstar has provided 180 schools with unlimited broadband Internet in Ukraine. Before the end of the 1st Quarter 2012 the Company is planning to increase the number of such schools to 200.

Kyivstar helps children receive new knowledge by providing schools with unlimited high speed Internet.
