OREANDA-NEWS. February 24, 2012. Doctor Web announces the release of the free Dr.Web Light scanner for Mac OS X which can be installed from www.drweb.com. Now, protecting computers and servers running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Mac OS X Lion has become even easier. Users can download the scanner distributive file whenever they want, and do not necessarily need to have access to the Mac App Store.

It should be remembered that Dr.Web for Mac OS X became available to users on January 26 of this year. The free scanner is a high-quality and reliable tool that can be used to scan and cure files on hard disks and any removable media. As with other Dr.Web products, a user can choose between three scanning modes: quick, full, and custom. This product allows you to create custom scanning rules, with which you can include or exclude specific files and folders, and set up certain actions that the anti-virus should take in case a threat is detected.

This version of the scanner can also work in the administrator mode, which is not available for programs installed directly from the Mac App Store. This feature will be very useful for scanning critical hard drive partitions and neutralizing malware running with administrator privileges. Moreover, threats found during such scanning can be placed into a special quarantine: users not logged on as an administrator will not be able to restore them, which increases the security of the system.

More detailed information about the scanner’s features is available in Doctor Web’s January news bulletin.
