OREANDA-NEWS. February 24, 2012. Uralkali (LSE: URKA), one of the world’s largest potash producers, informs that on 21 February 2012 the systems of regular monitoring executed by Uralkali registered ground motion. According to the monitoring data, the epicentre of the earth shocks was at a significant distance fr om the city of Berezniki and the motion has not caused any changes in the zone where Uralkali’s production facilities are located.

On 22 February the specialists of the Russian Ministry for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters, as well as the specialists of the Mining Institute of the Urals Branch of the Russian Academy of Science carried out a helicopter surveillance of the regions in the city of Berezniki which might be seismically hazardous. The specialists have not discovered any soil subsidence within the monitored territory.

Alexander Baryakh, director of the Mining Institute of the Urals Branch of the Russian Academy of Science:

“The epicentre of the occurrence registered by our seismic recording stations was far outside the area of the city of Berezniki. The motion has nothing to do with Uralkali’s activities. And we assure that the citizens of Berezniki are not endangered”.

Uralkali pays especial attention to the comprehensive monitoring of the worked out area in order to prevent any negative impact on the life of the local community, the Company’s employees and their families. In that regard, the Company intends to inform all interested stakeholders about any significant events in the area wh ere the Company operates.
