During the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, comprehensive competitiveness of Chongqing in ranking of provincial-level regional economy of China goes up for 6 levels; growth of competitiveness ranks the first in China, increasing from downstream position to midstream position.

Comprehensive competitiveness of provincial-level regional economy means attraction of one provincial region to resources within the whole country, contesting ability for the market and radical force and driving force for surrounding areas.

Blue Book of China’s Provincial Competitiveness has been published successively since 2007. Comprehensive evaluation on comprehensive competitiveness of nationwide 31 provinces and cities’ economy during the Eleventh-Five Year Plan period is carried out in 2012, and the evaluation concerns about macro-economy, industrial economy, sustainable development, finance, knowledge economy, development environment, government functions, development level, overall coordination and other indicators.

China’s 31 provinces in Blue Book of China’s Provincial Competitiveness are classified into four areas including east area, middle area, west area and northeast area. Evaluation scores for comprehensive competitiveness of the 4 areas’ economy in 2010 were 46.77, 34.97, 29.99 and 36.01 for east area, middle area, west area and northeast area respectively, indicating that difference between comprehensive competitiveness score of west area’s economy and that of east area’s economy is reduced.

From ranking of comprehensive competitiveness of economy, ranking of 11 provinces goes up, and comprehensive competitiveness of Chongqing’s economy rises for 6 levels to top 19, increasing from downstream position to midstream position.
