OREANDA-NEWS. March 05, 2012. Yekaterinburg hosted a festive closing of the 9th Adult Winter Spartakiada Games and the 4th Children's Winter Spartakiada Games of Gazprom. Winners and guests of the competitions received greetings from Mikhail Sereda, Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee – Head of the Administration of the Management Committee of Gazprom, David Gaidt, Director General of Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg, Olga Kotlyarova, Deputy Minister of Sports and Physical Training of the Sverdlovsk Oblast, and Lyudmila Fitina, Head of the Sports, Physical Training and Tourism Development Directorate under the Yekaterinburg Administration.

During the closing ceremony David Gaidt, Director General of Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg noted, “We did our best for you to enjoy staying in Yekaterinburg: to compete and just to be our guest. No one suffers a defeat in the Spartakiada Games of Gazprom, only winners are here!”


Following the results of the 9th Adult Winter Spartakiada Games, the Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg team won the gold medals, the Gazprom Transgaz Yugorsk team – silver and sportsmen from the Gazprom Transgaz Nizhny Novgorod team – the bronze ones.

Final results of the 4th Children's Winter Spartakiada Games revealed that young sportsmen from the Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg team took the first place, the Gazprom Transgaz Yugorsk team were the runners-up and the Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk team were awarded with the bronze medals.

The Spartakiada Games participants also received special prizes. The Gazprom Dobycha Nadym team was awarded with the “Honor and Dignity” prize given by the Sverdlovsk Oblast Governor. The Gazprom UGS team was presented with the “Will to Win” prize from the Yekaterinburg Major. The Gazprom Transgaz Ukhta team was awarded with the “Best Management in Youth Sports Development” prize received from the Head of the Gazprom Spartakiada Games Steering Committee. The Gazprom Transgaz Krasnodar team was presented with the “Commitment to Sports and Fidelity to Traditions” prize from the Director General of Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg.

Background

Gazprom annually holds Winter and Summer Spartakiada Games. The events take place in cities with the presence of Gazprom's subsidiaries. Both senior and junior Spartakiada Games are held among the employees of Gazprom's subsidiaries and organizations, and among children active in sports clubs of Gazprom's subsidiaries, respectively. Members of Russian national teams, participants of zonal competitions, national official events and championships as well as European events and championships, and Olympic Games are not permitted to take place in the competitions.

The main aim of the Spartakiada Games is establishing a healthy lifestyle of Gazprom's personnel, and the young generation as well. The Spartakiada Games provide for sharing the experience in the development of physical training and mass sports, maintaining the sports traditions.

The 9th Adult and the 4th Children's Winter Spartakiada Games of Gazprom have become the first joint Spartakiadas in the history of the Gazprom winter competitions. The events brought together 24 adult and 13 children's teams from 27 subsidiaries of Gazprom.
