OREANDA-NEWS. March 06, 2012. In 2011, a further 183 railway station ticket offices were equipped with integrated payment terminals to enable passengers to pay for train tickets on long-distance trains using VISA and MasterCard, reported the press-centre of RZD.

As a result, the total number of ticket offices equipped with similar devices has risen to 1,600. All payment terminals are owned by Joint Stock Company TransCreditBank, a subsidiary of Russian Railways.

Passengers have been able to buy tickets for long-distance trains on Russia’s railways using bank cards since 2005.

The introduction of payment terminals also allows passengers to choose their method of buying their tickets – by cash or by card, while cashiers spend less time on processing the purchase.
