OREANDA-NEWS. March 07, 2012. Baosteel Co.,Ltd. Energy Center Building 130-kilowatt photovoltaic system demonstration project is official launched. It marks that Baosteel has taken a substantial step in new energy technologies with green solar energy as the mainstream direction. This is also Baosteel's specific action in practising environmental management strategy, accelerating green energy technological application, and promoting the development of Baosteel green industry, reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

In recent years, as coal and other raw fuel prices are rising, so does the power generation cost. What with Baosteel's surging electricity consumption and the increase in purchased power cost, Baosteel begins to explore the application of new energy technologies. This year, coinciding with the country's promotion of the 2012 "Golden Sun" demonstration project, Baosteel takes this opportunity to carry out solar photovoltaic pilot project and try to use clean and renewable energy.

2012 "Golden Sun" demonstration project is the nation's specific action in promoting photovoltaic industry progress and large-scale development, fostering strategic emerging industries and supporting photovoltaic technology demonstration application in various areas and its key technologies' industrialization. It is intended to be completed in 2-3 years. The projects included in the "Golden Sun" demonstration project can receive financial support.

Baosteel has inherent advantages in carrying out new energy technologies such as solar energy: Baosteel electricity load is high, the electricity converted from solar energy can be directly used for plant production and there is no electricity surplus. Baosteel has large factory roofs and the equipment installation conditions are good. Once implemented, the scale effect is obvious. As the pilot of the "Golden Sun" demonstration project in the steel industry, by carrying out solar technology, Baosteel will make due contributions in leading the whole society in the new energy and new technology application and it will help enhance corporate social image.

Energy Center Building 130-kilowatt photovoltaic system demonstration project will be implemented through the contract energy management channel and will be put into operation in May this year. A 380 volt grid-connected photovoltaic power generation system will be built on Energy Environmental Protection Department Energy Center's steel-concrete roof. It uses polycrystalline silicon solar modules, with 130 kilowatts of installed power and 120,000 kwh of annual power generation. It is expected that during 25 years of full life cycle 3000000 kwh can be generated, 1050 tons of standard coal can be saved and 2600 tons of carbon dioxide emission can be reduced.
