OREANDA-NEWS. March 14, 2012. Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC), the operator of Kazakhstan's electricity transmission system, held the annual meeting of managers of its subsidiary companies to review 2011 and set out targets for 2012.

During the meeting, the managers of each of KEGOC's nine subsidiaries reported on their operations and financial results for 2011. They highlighted growth in operating and financial indicators, primarily driven by the overall increase in production and consumption of electricity in Kazakhstan's Unified Electricity System (UES).

Other issues discussed included planning and organisational matters and the quality of service provided by the company’s regional units.

In his report KEGOC Chairman Bakhytzhan Kazhiev stressed the need to improve production and financial results, increase cost efficiency and improve safety. Particular attention was given to repair work scheduled for 2012 and preparations for next autumn and winter. The meeting also set out targets for investment projects to develop the national grid. This year the grid modernisation programme will enter phase two, the Alma substation will be built and connected to the grid, and the Moinakskaya hydroelectric plant will be brought online.

Successful investment projects will improve the quality and reliability of energy supply, reduce KEGOC’s environmental footprint and improve the company’s competitiveness.

In line with these targets the company has continued to engage Kazakh contractors to carry out work and provide goods and services. In 2011 Kazakh contractors accounted for 60% of the total.
