OREANDA-NEWS. March 21, 2012. The Cabinet of Ministers soon establishes a complex system of state regulation of prices for medicines.

This was declared by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov during a meeting on the development of health care system on Tuesday.

"The state have to take under strict control of medicines prices once and for all. Here formalism is inadmissible. It is necessary in a short time to formulate a single, comprehensive system of state regulation of prices for medicines. We have to return a sense of security to people," Mykola Azarov underlined.

He also requires of the Ministry of Health to develop a concrete mechanism for solving this task and algorithm of interaction between ministries, departments and the operators of the market and to submit for consideration by the Government of the appropriate proposals regarding establishing a system.

"The validity of prices for medicines is extremely important issue for us, because costs of people to pharmacy are increasing and become very burdensome," said Prime Minister.

In turn, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Health Raisa Bohatyriova informed that currently work is underway on a draft government decree on the introduction of reference pricing for medicines for patients with hypertension and diabetes.

"We have worked through of mechanisms for introducing fair reference prices for medicines and have discussed two pilot projects which will begin to be implemented in May and June this year, according to which it will be introduced reference prices for certain types of medicines for the treatment of hypertension and insulin treatment of diabetic diseases," she said.

In addition, Prime Minister has charged the Ministry of Health to conduct an enlarged meeting with the deputy heads of regional administrations who are responsible for medical sector, to invite mayors of big cities and the chief physicians from all over Ukraine.

"We need to quickly invite not only the deputy heads of regional administrations, but also the chief physicians of regional hospitals, district hospitals," said Mykola Azarov.
