OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2012. Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko during a visit to Brussels on March 22 will discuss with EU Commissioner for Energy Guenther Oettinger state and prospects of cooperation between Ukraine and EU in the energy sector. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said this during his official visit to Poland.

According to Mykola Azarov, the parties will discuss the proposals of Ukraine on the use of domestic underground gas storages by EU countries.

Prime Minister of Ukraine said that the EU could use national gas underground storages facilities as accumulating capacity to offset the cost of gas during peak loads.

The Head of Government stressed that the abnormally cold winter in 2012 showed that Ukrainian underground gas storages is extremely reliable and cost-effective tool of compensation of peak load.

Mykola Azarov proposed EU pumping gas at spot prices during the year and to use it in winter, when gas price increases.
