OREANDA-NEWS. March 27, 2012. In December, United Metallurgical Company received the millionth tonne of wide steel sheets designed for the production of large-diameter pipes (LDP) from Germany-based Dillinger Hutte GTS, the world’s largest producer of high-quality thick plates for LDP production.

To commemorate this event, Dr. Dillinger Hutte GTS Sales Director Gunter Luxenburger presented OMK Procurement Director Aleksandr Tsiulev with a silver plate having an inscription of appreciation. The award ceremony was held as part of the Coordination Council’s activities between OMK and Dillinger Hutte GTS.

After the launch of the new TESA 1420 line at Vyksa Steel Works (VSW, part of OMK) in 2005, Dillinger became the key supplier of ide sheets for the North European Gas Pipeline, Sakhalin–Khabarovsk–Vladivostok, Ukhta–Torzhok, Bovanenkovo–Ukhta, and other projects. Close cooperation with the German company enabled OMK to participate in the Nord Stream project, where the bulk of supplied pipes, including a batch of LDP of 41 mm in thickness for the most sophisticated section of the gas pipeline, were made using rolled metal products manufactured by Dillinger Hutte GTS. Sheets for the production of pipes for the Nigerian business unit of Total, a French oil company, were received by OMK from a French plant.

In late November at Vyksa Steel Works, OMK put into operation Mill 5000 Metallurgical Facility 5000 (MKS) to provide OMK entities with in-house thick wide sheets.

Nevertheless, OMK and Dillinger Hutte GTS intend to develop their cooperation. “Special emphasis will be placed on products that cannot be produced at MKS 5000 so far and on supplying slabs for MKS 5000,” said OMK Procurement Director Aleksandr Tsiulev commenting on the prospect of OMK’s partnership with Dillinger Hutte GTS.
