OREANDA-NEWS. March 29, 2012. Having successfully completed the development of the third segment concept of the single passenger terminal, Moscow Domodedovo Airport and RMJM European Studio signed a new contract. The second segment of Domodedovo passenger terminal will be twice the Terminal 5 of London Heathrow Airport and equal to 61 football fields. Its area will be 439,500 sq. m.

‘We were impressed with the work done by RMJM on the third segment of the passenger terminal,’ said Pavel Cherepkov, Managing Director of Domodedovo Construction Company. ‘The passenger terminal development projects are part of a long-term strategy of Moscow Domodedovo Airport, and we are sure that RMJM can do high quality work.’

Under the supervision of the European Studio in Edinburgh and with the support of RMJM Transport Studio in Singapore, the draft of the second segment of the Domodedovo passenger terminal will be prepared round-the clock by RMJM offices in Vladivostok, New York and Moscow.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport keeps to the UNDER ONE ROOF concept, within which a single terminal is to be built making it possible to use of the airport’s transfer capacity the most efficiently. For example, the same concept is applied by one of the major European hubs - Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

To date, Domodedovo passengers and guests enjoy the first segment of the terminal, which is under expansion and reconstruction: in the third quarter of 2012, its area is to be more than doubled compared to that in 2011 - to 226 thousand square meters. With the commissioning of the second and third segments in 2017, the single terminal area will increase 9-fold and reach 919,500 sq. m.
