OREANDA-NEWS. April 02, 2012. The Azerbaijan-Lithuania intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation is conducting its 2nd meeting in Baku today.

At the meeting Commission’s co-chair and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Azubalis informed that the interest of Lithuanian businessmen to rapidly developing Azerbaijan is increasing rapidly.

"IT companies have already signed more than one contract with banks and financial institutions of Azerbaijan, and these projects are being successfully implemented. We see particular opportunities for expanding cooperation between our countries in the fields of transport and energy. We call on Azerbaijan to take an active part in Viking project for export to the European Union," Azubalis said.

He emphasized that in the energy sector Lithuania sees the possibility of cooperation on the basis of natural gas swap supplies.

"There is an investment project on construction of LNG terminal in Lithuanian ports, which could be attractive to investors in Azerbaijan. In 2014, we intend to commission this terminal with capacity of 3 bn cu m,” he added.
