OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2012. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov is convinced that the authorities would be able to achieve reducing prices for Russian gas up to a fair level. He said this during meeting with members of the Supervisory Board of the "Yalta European Strategy".

"We have two years negotiating with Russia, and we will achieve price reduction," said Mykola Azarov.

He stressed that under the bonded contracts of 2009 Ukraine gets the Russian gas at the highest price in Europe.

According to the Prime Minister, Ukraine, excluding the 100-dollar of Kharkiv’s discount, now buys gas at 546 dollars per thousand cubic meters.

In this regard, Prime Minister gave the example of Poland, which buys Russian gas at 310 dollars per thousand cubic meters, while the transit distance via Ukraine is 1200 kilometers.

"There is Ukraine between Poland and Russia. It is 1,200 kilometers. That is, if the Poles are buying gas at 310 dollars, Ukraine should buying gas at least by 100 dollars cheaper," said Mykola Azarov.
