OREANDA-NEWS. April 17, 2012. Capt. Wei Jiafu, Chairman of COSCO Group, Mr. Ma Zehua, President of COSCO Group, and Mr. Li Yunpeng, Executive Vice President attended the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2012 at Boao, Hainan, reported the press-centre of COSCO Group.

Capt. Wei as the advisory member of BFA, with other board members and advisory members was met by Vice Premier Li Keqiang at the Boao Long Tan Ling State Guest House. In the later BFA board members meeting, Capt. Wei submitted a proposal that the BFA conference should voice against on the EU's CO2 emission taxes scheme in air and ocean transportation industries, and he also suggested some special researches be conducted in BFA R&D Center to provide intellectual support for Asian industry players in this debate.

The opening ceremony of BFA annual conference 2012 was grandly held. Vice Premier Li Keqiang attended the ceremony and delivered the keynote speech. More than 2,000 government, business and academic leaders from around the globe attended the meeting whose theme this year is "Asia in the Changing World: Moving toward Sound and Sustainable Development."

In the roundtable discussion of Made in Asia: the Next Step Forward, Capt. Wei as panelist pointed out in his remarks that the future development of Asian manufacturing industry should aim at three major technology trends, which are the cloud digitalization, intelligent manufacturing and wireless communication. He hoped Chinese companies to invest on human resource and to absorb advanced talents from all over the world as Capt. Wei believed these are the essence in competing with other industry players.

In the Cross-Straits Roundtable Dialog, Capt. Wei highly recognized the BFA's contribution in promoting the cross-straits economic ties since its inauguration. He also reviewed the development of this cross-straits dialogs in the last 9 years and thanked all who had made this dialog in BFA so important.

At the BFA annual conference, Mr. Ma Zehua and Mr. Li Yunpeng also attended series of events. On April 1st, Mr. Ma Zehua attended the luncheon reception for Taiwan and Mainland China Entrepreneurs organized by Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, and met with Taiwan entrepreneurs and political leaders at the event. Mr. Ma and Mr. Li also attended some panel discussions and the ASEAN Luncheon that was presided over by Ambassador Zhong Wenzhong, Secretary General of BFA and attended by the Vice Chairman of BFA, former Vice Premier ZengPeiyan.

During the BFA annual conference,  several business meetings were also arranged for the company leaders. Capt. Wei met with Australia Ambassador to China Ms. Frances Adamson and Mr. Bill Richardson, former governor of New Mexico and former secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy. President Ma met with Robert KIMMITT, Chairman of Deloitte Center for Cross-Border Investment and Former U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, sharing information on the oil price and Mr. Kimmitt's view on global economy.
