OREANDA-NEWS. April 17, 2012. Mundra: In line with its philosophy of improving the quality of life of its communities in and around its area of operations, Tata Power, through its subsidiary, Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL), organised a polio vaccination camp in Mundra at its township and labour colony. More than 75 children below five years were given oral polio drops at the camp organised under the National Polio Eradication Programme.

Speaking on the initiative, KK Sharma, chief, Mundra UMPP, said, “Community health has always been at the core of Tata Power’s community development efforts. We are proud to be associated with this initiative of National Polio Eradication Programme and look forward to organising more such events in the future. We also appreciate the support provided by the Gujarat Government for organising polio immunisation programme.”

CGPL is involved in a variety of community development projects in and around its operation area. These programmes cover many areas, from health and education to livelihoods, and woman and child welfare to social infrastructure. Local needs are identified through interactions with villagers and surveys. Some of the programmes covered by the company so far are:
• Income generation / livelihood restoration — self-help groups, handicraft training and trading.
• Social infrastructure, construction and repairs of roads and community property resources.
• Health, hygiene, sanitisation and safe drinking water.
• HIV/Aids awareness and capacity building programmes.
• Camel / cattle veterinary and vaccination camps.
• Employability training.
