OREANDA-NEWS. April 18, 2012. Following the visit of Ukrainian delegation headed by President Viktor Yanukovych to the Kingdom of Jordan has been achieved an understanding about strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector.

This was informed by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Prysyazhnyuk: "There have been signed several agreements, including on the construction of grain storages facilities in Jordan, which will enable to increase the supply of grain as to this country as to neighboring, as well as an agreement has been reached to increase the supplies of poultry meat and offals."

He has also added that an agreement has been reached on cooperation between scientific institutions of both countries, particularly in area of development of joint programs of the study of dangerous diseases of poultry and animals, exchange breeding materials (seeds of vegetables and melon crops), and introduction of new technologies for arrangements of protection products. Mykola Prysyazhnyuk has also announced that there has been signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of plant quarantine, which will allow preventing the importation and spreading of regulated pests and ensuring the coordination of state phytosanitary measures.

The Minister has also recalled the interest of Ukrainian milk processing enterprises in the supply for the Jordanian market of dairy products, spreads, hard cheese, dry milk, canned milk, milk long-term storage, ice cream, meat, sausage and meat products, canned meat, frozen semis and confectionery.

Ukrainian exports to Jordan in 2011 amounted to 46.0 million USD (eggs of poultry -10.0 million USD, meat and offal - 1.7 million USD, grain cereals - 24.6 million USD, oil - 6.9 million USD).

Imports of Jordanian products to Ukraine in 2011 totalled 0.7 million USD. (Fruits of a nut and a dried peel, vegetables, plants and root vegetables - 0.7 million USD. Imports amounted to 230.2 million USD).
