OREANDA-NEWS. April 18, 2012. Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility, celebrated Fire Safety Week from April 9-14, 2012, at its Jojobera thermal power station and Power House 6 plant. The weeklong celebrations culminated with Fire Service Day on April 14, 2012, in memory of the explosions which took place on April 14, 1944, due to fire in a ship called Fort Strikine, in the Victoria docks at Mumbai.

The employees observed a one-minute silence as tribute to the deceased who laid down their lives for the cause of safety. At a mass meeting, the employees and stakeholders also took a safety pledge.

During the week, fire brigade staff demonstrated fire fighting techniques with portable fire-fighting equipment on each day of the week to employees of various departments.

They also displayed the operation of deluge system. A pre-informed fire-cum-evacuation drill was performed by the fire department in the presence of all employees.

Speaking at the inauguration of Fire Safety Week, Dinesh Kudalkar, head, Jojobera station, said, “Fire Safety Week is a key initiative in our journey to achieve safety excellence. We are committed to ensuring safety of our employees and all stakeholders. We are happy that our employees have also gone an extra mile and sensitised the society about safe practices.”
