OREANDA-NEWS. April 18, 2012. Cargo traffic at Vanino Commercial Sea Port (Port Vanino) in January-March 2012 decreased by 1.8% compared to same period a year before to 1,357,600 tons, the company said.

The slight decline was attributed to the most severe in the last 20 years winter conditions in the area. In the reporting period Port Vanino handled 583,900 tons of export cargo, including 233,500 tons of coal, 52,300 tons of non-ferrous metals and 294,500 tons of timber cargo.

The three-month volume of imports totaled 326,300 tons, largely alumina (309.9 mt). The volume of coastal traffic cargoes amounted to 71,600 tons. The Vanino - Kholmsk ferry service carried 375,800 tons of cargo.

In March, the stevedore company transshipped 431,300 tons of different cargoes.

JSC Vanino Commercial Sea Port (Port Vanino) is the major operator of the port of Vanino (Khabarovsk Territory). The port is a gateway for trade flows between Russia and Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, USA and other countries of Asia Pacific Region. Vanino also handles imports shipped to the northern regions of Russia. Port Vanino owns the waterfront of about 2.5-km with three specialized cargo handling facilities. In 2011, cargo throughput at Port Vanino terminals shrank 1.7% to 5.9 million tons. Net profit of Port Vanino for 2011 increased by 3.9 times to RUB 339.4 million.
