OREANDA-NEWS. April 27, 2012. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov is convinced that in the next 10-20 years in Ukraine the nuclear power will be remaining the main producer of electricity, as electricity produced by NPP is ten times cheaper than alternative energy sources. PM stated this at the meeting on ensuring energy security, which took place in the emergency technical center of the SE NNEGC Energoatom in Bilogorodka settlement, Kyiv region.

"For us in the next 10-20 years there is no alternative to nuclear power. Moreover, we will develop it," said Mykola Azarov.

He has also added that in Ukraine for the first time in 20 years of independence, already this year would launch the construction of two power units at the Khmelnitsky NPP. "For the first time in 20 years of Independence, Ukraine decides to strengthen its energy independence," Mykola Azarov underlined.

Prime Minister stressed that one kilowatt hour of solar electricity makes 4 UAH, while the cost of nuclear energy 50 times cheaper.

However, PM has set a target to comply with all safety standards of the NPP work: "The nuclear power should absolutely be provided by security so that the nuclear power plants did not constitute a threat to our citizens."
