OREANDA-NEWS. April 28, 2012.  Bhai Manjit Singh, Chairman, Punjab Energy Development Agency today distributed cheques worth Rs. 2.24 lakh as subsidy to the beneficiaries of the bio-gas plants.    
 
On this occasion, he said that families of 48904 beneficiaries of the bio-gas plant scheme had been facilitating pollution free cooking and solar home lighting system with two lights. Detailing benefits of the PEDA supported solar units, he said that cow-dung was being used to produce bio-gas which can be used for cooking and running diesel engines. Not only this, but during the process of production of gas, the cow-dung is also converted into a very good manure.
 
He said that with during the last year 391232 LPG cylinders were saved due to massive use of bio-gas in the rural areas. He disclosed that during the last fiscal solar water heater system with a daily capacity of 37150 liters were installed in theaters, hotels and factories saving a sum of more than Rs.22.90 lakh annually.
