OREANDA-NEWS. May 3, 2012. Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility, has implemented several unique green initiatives under its Greenolution programme, through its subsidiary, Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL), which is developing its 4,000MW ultra mega power project in Mundra taluka, Kutch district, Gujarat.

In continuation with its efforts towards environment conservation, CGPL has taken up a massive tree plantation programme on the road from Kandagra village turning to the power plant’s main gate, to enhance the green cover of the region. The total area covered under this tree plantation activity is approximately two acres.

Labourers from nearby villages were engaged for the plantation activity as well as for taking care of the planted saplings for a better survival rate.

Speaking on the initiative, KK Sharma, chief, Mundra, said, “One of the key activities under Greenolution is enhancing the green cover in the region with indigenous species.We are happy to undertake this tree plantation drive. Sustainability forms the core of our company’s vision and we will continue to focus on carrying forward our green legacy.”

The name ‘Greenolution’, a fusion of two concepts, ‘green’ and ‘evolution’, signifies the processes and initiatives that Tata Power has undertaken towards ensuring a greener and sustainable planet. Through its Greenolution initiative, Tata Power intends to put efforts / practices / programmes that infuse the belief of sustainability as a ‘movement’ by making all stakeholders a part of it.
