OREANDA-NEWS. May 4, 2012. Located inland in Inhamuns, in the semi-arid zone of the state of Ceara, today, May 3, the municipality of  Taua is celebrating the 210th anniversary of its political emancipation.  The city approximately lies at 360 kilometers from the capital city  and has approximately 55 thousand inhabitants. With an excellent solar radiation potential, on average, the municipality receives 177.7 hours of radiation per month in the first semester of the year, and 244.8 hours in the following one. This is why Taua was selected by MPX to host the first solar power plant to be connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN), Solar Taua.

In operation since July 2011, the Taua venture features 1MW capacity, which is enough to supply power to approximately 1,500 families. In the course of the first six months of commercial operation, from July to December, 2011, 808.369 MWh were generated in Taua, which suffices to drive 8 thousand TV sets, 11 thousand microwave ovens or yet, 12 thousand fans.

With full faith on the development of this source of energy and on the long term commitment to the Taua plant,  MPX is planning to start plant expansion works to 2 MW still this year, thanks to an agreement executed with GE. In parallel, MPX has applied before the Environmental Secretariat of the State of Ceara – SEMACE – for an extension of the license issued to the Taua power plant to 50 MW.

To MPX it is with enormous pleasure to be present in Taua, participating in the reality of this city that has drawn all eyes in the country.
