OREANDA-NEWS.May 05, 2012. For today in Ukraine spring field work continues, the course of which is carried out in accordance with the predicted volumes. Thus, from the forecast of 8.9 million hectares, the Ukrainian farmers have sown 5.9 million hectares, representing 66% and correspond to planned deadline. This was informed by Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Prysyazhnyuk within the briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

In addition, the Minister has informed, there have been completed sowing with early spring crops in the area of 3.6 million hectares that 200 thousand hectares more than in the previous year.

"Spring wheat was sowed on the area of 250 thousand ha, barley - on 2.814 million ha, oats - on 311 ha, peas - on 248 thousand hectares. Today, corn for grain has sown on an area of 2 million hectares, i.e. 44% to the forecast," said the Minister.

According to plans of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, this year a corn is being sowed on 4.4 million hectares, and a similar increase in the production of this crop caused by the increasing demand both in domestic and foreign market. In addition, it has been launched seeding with cereal crops too.

"Buckwheat was sowed on an area of 20 hectares, millet - on an area of 39 thousand hectares, rice - an area of 0.3 thousand hectares. Sowing with sugar beet has made on an area of 450 thousand hectares, representing 84% to the forecast, sunflower - an area of 2 million hectares, soy - 384 thousand hectares, re-sowing of winter crops under spring crops is carried out on the area of 722 hectares," Mykola Prysyazhnyuk noted.

In other words, said the Head of Ministry of Agrarian Policy, spring field works are being carried out in compliance with all scheduled deadlines.
