OREANDA-NEWS. May 11, 2012. CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) opened a new, fully interactive Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) showroom for business customers, reported the press-centre of CLP Power.

The GREENPLUS Resort showcases practical ways to harness renewable energy technologies as well as energy efficient lighting, air-conditioning and heating systems for outdoor settings. It is designed to be a valuable resource for businesses that want affordable, tailor-made energy saving solutions that enable them to save on running costs.

Located in Yuen Long, the GREENPLUS Resort encompasses energy saving solutions that cater to the needs of companies in about 20 different industries, from campsites to fish farms. For instance, an outdoor cafe operating in premises of 3,000 square feet that decided to implement CLP-recommended LED lighting and energy efficient air-conditioning could expect to see savings of HKD40,000 per year. This would enable them to recover their initial investment within two years, while reducing their energy consumption at the same time.

The Resort also features an interactive "Energy Check-up Station", giving businesses tangible examples of the real-life energy efficient solutions available to them, and the savings on offer.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony earlier today, Mr. Richard Lancaster, Managing Director of CLP Power, said, "As a responsible energy supplier, we are keen to further enhance our efforts  to help customers boost their energy efficiency and control their energy consumption. CLP has considerable expertise in this area, so we are well-placed to advise on holistic solutions that help businesses to set and achieve realistic energy efficiency targets."

GREENPLUS Resort is designed to support over 6,000 business customers per year. If even 10 per cent of these customers go on to implement CLP's energy saving recommendations, they could help save 18,000,000 kWh electricity and reduce 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year. This is equivalent to the entire energy needs of 60 Hong Kong style tea restaurants for a year.

Another officiating guest, The Honorable Jeffrey Lam kin-fung, Chairman of the Economic Development Panel, Legislative Council, is pleased to see the opening of GREENPLUS Resort as it can help businesses reduce energy cost under the difficult operating environment.

This Resort also features one of CLP's own designs, the 'Step Power Generator', which illustrates how daily exercise such as jogging or dancing can generate electricity. The invention can be applied to gyms or rehabilitation centres, and is a useful 'green education' teaching resource for schools. Students will be surprised to learn that jogging or dancing for just 30 seconds can generate the same amount of energy that a person would use during a one-hour smart phone conversation.

Renewable energy is also one of the key focuses of the GREENPLUS Resort. The Resort is the first of its kind to offer a comprehensive renewable energy demonstration centre, which provides a 'one-stop' experience of renewable energy in action, from the initial choice of technologies through to grid connection advice for businesses interested in harnessing the potential of renewable energy.

Live models on standalone and grid-connected solar and wind energy generation systems illustrate how these two well-known forms of renewable energy are used in practice.

Other highlights of the GREENPLUS Resort include a solar thermal water heating system, illustrating how solar energy generates heat and provides hot water for use.
