OREANDA-NEWS. May 14, 2012. Installation of more efficient cooling system for Vacuum Distillation Unit is underway during the current Turnaround in ORLEN Lietuva. The above 4.5 MM LTL modernization project will increase vacuum gasoil yield by 1 % during the warm season and will result in saving of approx. 3 MM LTL in 2012, reported the press-centre of ORLEN Lietuva.

Growing air temperature during the warm season increases the load of cooling systems in ORLEN Lietuva Refinery process units and has negative effect on light distillation product yield.  In order to reduce the impact of ambient temperature on vacuum formation in Vacuum Distillation Unit, a new-type cooling system is being implemented in tower K-601 during the Turnaround. The Unit modernization project will increase the unit vacuum gasoil yield by 1% during the warm season.

"Based on the feasibility study, an absorption cooling system was selected, which features in exceptionally low energy consumption and simplified project implementation. These innovations will save additionally approx. 6 MM LTL per year," said Ireneusz Fafara, General Director of ORLEN Lietuva.

Pumps, piping, relevant automation system for the electrical and cooling equipment in the Vacuum Distillation Unit are intended to be installed by the end of the Turnaround on June 3.

About 50 various modernization and maintenance projects will be implemented during the biggest Turnaround in the history of the Refinery commenced on April 30.
