OREANDA-NEWS. May 16, 2012. The Brazilian auto market saw a decline in its production and sales in April 2012. The domestic sales totaled 257,885 units last month, down 14.2% from March figures, when 300,574 units were registered. The production dropped 15.5% from 308,494 to 260,825 units on the same comparison basis.

If one considers just cars and light commercial vehicles, the production amounted to 246,643 units or 14.9% lower than that of March and 6.3% less than the April 2011 figures. Truck production reached 11,586 units, down 27.2% and 23.4% from March 2012 and April 2011, respectively. 2,596 buses were produced last month, a 10.6% drop from March and 25.5% decline from April 2011.

In the first four months of the year, vehicle sales decreased 3.4% on the past year’s equivalent period to 1,076,249 units. In the same period, the auto production totaled 998,931 units or 10.1% below the output of same period in 2011.
