OREANDA-NEWS. May 25, 2012. President Dalia Grybauskaite is attending an informal meeting of the European Council in Brussels which focuses on economic situation in Europe.

The Lithuanian leader underlines that the economic situation in the European Union is still complicated and, therefore, the need to pursue stringent fiscal policies remains.

"We all are closely connected in the European Union. Economic situation in Europe is complicated and can affect the pace of Lithuania's recovery. It is therefore necessary to continue dealing with our finances responsibly, to pursue austerity policies and, concurrently, to exploit fully all available measures to ensure economic growth," President Dalia Grybauskaite said.

According to the President, while looking for a way out of the crisis, austerity measures and promotion of economy cannot be placed in opposition to each other. These two trends of economic policies should be implemented together.
